Transcription: Originating in South America, the potato was the most important food for the Incas of Peru. After Spain conquered Peru in 1536, some Spanish people returning to Europe brought this new food with them. About 100 years later, Spanish fishermen working off the coast of Ireland introduced the potato to Ireland. After the potato arrived in Great Britain, the British took it to their colony in Bermuda. In 1621, they took a shipload of potatoes to Virginia where the potato had previously been unknown.
